The Morning Mimosa

MimosaThe Mimosa is the perfect drink for brunch crowd, the morning after, or a reason to have an early drink. The best part? It’s so easy to make.

Grabe a flute, fill it halfway up with Champagne or sparkling wine, top with fresh squeezed orange juice and garnish. That’s it!

Except for the best part, drinking it! Cheers!

Shout out to Susan M.

A Leaderless Nation

leaderlessWe are a nation without a leader.

Leadership defined: lead·er·ship

The action of leading a group of people or an organization. Synonyms: guidance, direction, control, management, superintendence, supervision; organization, government “firm leadership.” Firm leadership? Yeah. Joke. Yes.

Notice anything missing? Here’s a clue- Blame. The only people agreeing with our current “leader” are his sycophants.

Sycophant defined: syc·o·phant
A person who acts obsequiously toward someone important in order to gain advantage.
synonyms: yes-man, bootlicker, brown-noser, toady, lickspittle, flatterer, flunky, lackey, spaniel, doormat, stooge, cringer, suck, suck-up.

Our President’s failures are too numerous to mention. This is a blog. No one will take the time. Our President’s list of lies are so long that his grandchildren will fail that quiz if the United States is around long enough for us to have another generation.

The only thing this joke of a leader has managed to lead us into is a giant mess. He doesn’t have the leadership skills to admit when he is wrong but he does seem to have the ability to blame everyone but himself for the problems we are currently facing. Israel? Blame the Israelis. Immigration? Blame Bush. Health Care? Blame anyone. The economy? Bush again. IRS Email Scandal? Who knows. He certainly doesn’t and doesn’t seem to care.

The time for change is NOW. We can’t afford 2.5 more years of t(his) bullshit.

Monday Mixer – Blood Orange Margarita

Blood Orange MargaritaHere’s Monday’s Mixer for you. Perfect for poolside parties or just right for that intimate mixing for two.

1/2 cup blood orange juice

2 tbsps lime juice (freshly squeezed)

3 tbsps triple sec or Cointreau.

2 – 3 shots of 1800 Silver Tequila. Use a blood orange slice for garnish. Powder with sugar to dress it up. Simple, sweet and delicious. I prefer just a dash more Cointreau.

Thirstday Brew Review – Grolsch Premium Lager

grolsch-premium-lagerThe Thirstday beer review is a little late because some friends and I were reviewing it until the wee hours of the morning. I know Grolsh isn’t a craft beer but you can taste the craftsmanship in every swallow. So here goes…

First, the satisfying pop of the caged stopper signals that a celebration is forthcoming. I found no need for a glass because there is some unknown quality that makes drinking Grolsch from a bottle a very pleasant experience.

What we all noticed is that the slight skunky aroma didn’t affect the taste in a negative way. No pretentious notes to get in the way of enjoying a nice lager without all the fuss of determining lacing and head and what color pour it happened to be. It’s a beer to be enjoyed along the likes of Stella or Duvel.

We found no snobbishness in the aftertaste but after 9 or so of them it was fun to order them while trying to pronounce the name correctly. Also nice to enjoy a brew that’s not an IPA and have to comment on the “hoppiness“. Just enjoy the brew and the happiness without breaking out a beer journal to copy down every hint or trace of flavor that people go on about for hours, even though most of it is for the benefit of beer snobs that make beers sound like something you put on a horse or ride a horse through, or find on an island. – i.e. “hints of leather and winter wheat,” or, “graceful barley notes with a touch of papaya and dragon fruit.”.

Supreme Court Says NO to Obama in a 9 to 0 Decision

gtfo obama decal

From The L.A. Times:

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that President Obama exceeded his power under the Constitution by filling three federal positions when the Senate was on a brief break, but justices upheld the right of the president to make recess appointments during longer breaks.

Unfortunately, it’s not enough to drive him out of office but it’s a start. At least someone in authority noticed that the POTUS acts more like a king than an elected President. Let the left-handed hand wringing begin. Off to read more on the “IRS, Oops, we had a crash that selectively deleted emails pertinent to an investigation but left others intact” line of BS. Seems more facts are forthcoming.

Monday Mixer – Vodka Gimlet

Summer is here and so is the heat and the Mondays come, once a week. So next Monday treat yourself to a classic, the Vodka Gimlet.

You’ll need:

1 1/2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Lime Juice
1 tsp. Sugar, powdered

Shake ingredients well in a cocktail shaker with ice, strain into a Cocktail glass and garnish with a lime slice or for something a bit more fancy, peel a lime curl and float in the glass or drape from the edge of the glass in a spiral. Simple, refreshing and pleasing to the eye. Come back next Monday for another Mixer and feel free to add your own spin on this classic in the comment section.
